These days the terms "tole painting" and "decorative painting" are often used to mean the same thing... painting on a broad range of surfaces.
However originally, Tole Painting meant painting on tin or metal objects. I know it can be confusing for some folks, so now you know. :-)
Whether you're just starting out or you're an advanced painter, these painting patterns will bring you hours of painting fun.
If you are looking for something specific check out the links to the categories below.

My Pattern Packets contain the following:
2) Is this a physical product or a digital download?
These are digital PDF downloads… nothing will be mailed. After purchase, you’ll receive email with access to download the files. Be sure to use a valid active email address.
3) How do I access my download after I purchase?
After you have purchased your pattern packet, you will receive a Thank You email within a few minutes. If you don’t see it in your inbox, please check you Spam and Junk folders just in case it landed there for some reason.
That email will contain a private link for you to access you pattern packet. The link will stay active for 72 hours and will allow you to download your pattern packet up to 5 times during that period. You need to download and save to your computer only once. Save it in a secure location and you will never have to download it again.
If you do have problems accessing your packet, contact me immediately by CLICKING HERE and I will sort it out.
4) What skill level are these patterns for (beginner vs. advanced)?
I design my Pattern Packets for specific skill levels. Each packet specifies what the minimum skill level is. Skill levels include Beginner / Beginner + / Intermediate / Advanced.
In some cases, I have listed the skills you require in the detailed Packet Description.
5) What surfaces can I use these patterns on?
Packets can be used for any surface except for Glass and Fabric. That’s because glass and fabric require specialized paints. I specify this in the pattern packet description. So, if it is not specifically for Glass or Fabric, your packet can be painted on anything.
Patterns are designed for flat surfaces, but you can adapt them to curved surfaces if required.
6) Can I resize the pattern? What size will it print?
Patterns print at actual size and sizes vary depending on the project. Most fit on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. On rare occasions, multiple sheets are required and you have to tape them together. You can scale the size up or down using your printer settings or at a print shop.
7) How do I transfer the pattern onto my surface?
The method I prefer is to use graphite paper and transfer paper to trace and transfer line drawings to the surface you intend to paint. I do not include instructions in the packet on how to do this. However, you can learn how to transfer line drawings by visiting my website by CLICKING HERE.
8) What supplies/paints do I need? Do I need the exact brands/colors listed?
I specify the specific paint brand and colors required for each project. This is to ensure you get results as close as possible to those I get in the finished piece. I do not provide substitutes or color-mixing guidance. However, if you have a similar color that you want to use, and you don’t mind getting a slightly different result, feel free to do so.
I provide a list of the brush types and sizes I recommend for the project. This is to ensure you get the most pleasure from painting the project and that you get a satisfactory result.
9) What is your copyright policy—can I sell what I paint from these patterns?
All of my pattern packets are created with love and respect for the craft and a desire to share this wonderful hobby with you. But I do have to eat, so I cannot do this for free. So here is the deal on what you can do and what you can’t.
10) What is your refund/exchange policy on digital downloads?
As you probably know, digital products usually are non-refundable once downloaded. But I am so confident in your honesty, and the quality of my Pattern Packets, that I provide a 30-day Money Back Guarantee!
If you have issues, let me know and I will do my best to resolve them including resend links, provide alternate file format, troubleshoot printing, replace corrupt files, etc. If that is not the issue, all you have to do is explain how I failed to serve you so I can do better next time.
11) Can I learn to paint from a Pattern Packet if I have never painted before?
Pattern Packets are not designed to teach you painting techniques. They are designed to instruct you on how to create a painting using painting skills and techniques you already have. You may be able to paint a simple pattern without any prerequisite skills, but I don’t recommend doing so. Here is why.
Painting should be fun and satisfying. If you are going to invest time and money in learning to paint, do it properly. Everything you learn will become ingrained over time so that it becomes a habit. So, if you don’t learn properly, you will be creating bad habits and techniques that will limit your ability and enjoyment as a painter forever. I have seen this hundreds of times in my 30+ years teaching painters.
Consider taking proper training in Decorative Painting such as “A Course in Decorative Painting With Acrylics” that I offer in my Earmark Creative Studio Membership.

Cheryl Poulin has a painting style that reflects her playfulness and her love of nature. Many of her works can be found in homes in Ottawa, Canada and as far away as Great Britain and Australia.
Cheryl's first creative exploration was in decorative arts. After only a few short years she had mastered many styles and numerous painting techniques. Invited to teach in a local shop, she blossomed as a great teacher and as a supportive mentor.
Several years ago, Cheryl launched Your-Decorative-Painting-Resource.com - a website dedicated to decorative painting as well as other creative explorations. This has become a true labor of love.
In recent years, she has turned her attention to mixed media where she has adopted a more abstract impressionist style. However, she has maintained her faithfulness to decorative painting and continues to create instructional pattern packets.
Today, Chéryl Poulin teaches from her home-based studio, Earmark Purrductions Creative Studios in a tranquil forested setting in Dunrobin, Ontario Canada. She also leads Eat, Play, Paint Workshops for anyone wanting to explore their artistic side. She is also a Creativity Coach, providing gentle guidance and mentorship using art as a form of personal exploration.
You may contact Chéryl by visiting her websites at the links below. She loves to help people and is thrilled to help anyone realize their artistic goals.
