Hi Randy, Cheryl here from Your Decorative Painting Resource.
I would definitely select a heat set paint on the back of the glass beads.
To protect from the sun's UV rays, you can spray the beads with a gloss exterior varnish that contains UV protection.
The gloss of the varnish will not interfere with the shine of the beads. Make sure you wipe down the beads with rubbing alcohol before spraying the varnish.
I hope this helps.

Paint for glass beads by: Rachel
I have used alcohol inks on the back and then sealed them. Then I was able to attach to a outdoor "lantern" i was making!!!! So far, so good.
Can you tell me what a pudmuckle is? I thought the term described a tole painting stroke, but I cannot find it listed or illustrated anywhere. My email
