Hi Linda,
I work in a variety of sketchbooks and I prepare the paper with a coat of gesso first. Gesso is a primer usually applied to a canvas. However it's awesome for making the pages less absorbent. You can paint in a mixed media journal or inexpensive sketchbooks from discount stores. Once gesso'd any paper will be a good surface to practice on.
Can you tell me what a pudmuckle is? I thought the term described a tole painting stroke, but I cannot find it listed or illustrated anywhere. My email
Cheryl, Is it necessary to spray artwork with an acrylic spray if I use a quality canvas listed as “archival”? Cheryl, are you still writing newsletters?
