Taping off round objects does pose a challenge. You can purchase specialty tapes like those used for detailing cars and planes. The tape is very flexible and does not "pucker".
Otherwise, use painter's tape and "burnish" the areas that have puckered...use the back of a spoon and really rub the tape down. Have some rubbing alcohol on had and some cotton swabs (Q-Tips).
As soon as you've painted the band remove the tape and if you do have some seepage under the tape, use the rubbing alcohol to fix the problem.
Can you tell me what a pudmuckle is? I thought the term described a tole painting stroke, but I cannot find it listed or illustrated anywhere. My email
